Smokers are also happy to take a puff while sunbathing on the wonderful beaches of Mallorca. And for others, this may be what disturbs them in their peaceful rest. It seems like an insoluble contradiction, but in reality it is not. In 2019, the government of the Balearic Islands introduced the possibility of a smoke-free beach. Every year since then, new local governments have joined the initiative, which, in addition to reducing the harmful habit, aimed to avoid conflict between people belonging to the two parties and, last but not least, to reduce waste.

Since 2023, smoking has been prohibited on 15 Mallorcan beaches: Platja de Formentor (Pollenca), Platja d'Albercutx (Pollenca), Cala Barques (Pollenca), Cala Molins (Pollenca), Cala Deià (Deià), Caló des Moro (Santanyí), Cala Sa Nau (Sant Llorenç), Cala Anguila (Manacor), Sa Platgeta in Colonia de Sant Pere (Artà), Platja de Sant Joan (Alcúdia), Platja des Carregador (Calvià), Platja de Santa Ponça (Calvià), Platja de la Romana or dels Morts (Calvià), Cala Estància (Palma), Molinar (Palma)
